Hello, we are The Product, a berlin-based studio for spatial and media-related design.

We conceive design concepts. We create installations. We animate surfaces. We design spaces.
We develop objects. And we extensively think about the application and combination of technologies
in meaningful ways.

The Y-Table at DAZ

Yesterday, we set up a large version of the Y-Table at the DAZ, German Architecture Centre.
The Y-Table [DAZ version] by The Anxious Prop, in collaboration with DAZ and Raumtaktik, 2011 The Y-Table is not a finished object. It is a customizable workstation that is CNC fabricated, built only on-demand to help resolve the common creative questions of its users. As a sustainable approach, it is a customizable idea designed to facilitate specific production processes while keeping material excess to a minimum. The Y-Table always keeps its distinctive three-partite form, but its dimensions and surface-features vary from use to use, from site to site. The DAZ version was developed by Matthias Böttger, Silke Johannes [+DAZ team], Ludwig Engel [Raumtaktik], Mendel Heit, Patrick Kochlik, Jens Wunderling, Jan Bovelet, and Luis Berríos-Negrón. The Y-Table was initially a participatory installation for Case 3 of The Anxious Prop at Salon Populaire in 2010. It served as an interface and large-scale template for the collective and the audience to come together through the editing and binding of The Black Swan Issue feuilleton. The initial concept was a collaboration between Luis Berríos-Negrón, Elín Hansdóttir, Mendel Heit, Fotini Lazaridou-Hatzigoga, and The Product.

WUNDER

We are happy to announce the opening of the wonderful exhibition "Wunder - Art, Science and Religion from the 4th Century to the Present" at Deichtorhallen, Hamburg, to which we contributed three interactive, collaborative and transformative installations on the specially curated "childrens' path". From the curators' description:
WONDER (Miracle) is a word that bursts boundaries. This exhibition taps into its explosive potential, tracing the arc of the miracle throughout different times and disciplines. Centering on works of contemporary art, it develops its arguments by assembling objects from many different spheres and allowing them to enter into dialogue with one another: a technical innovation stands next to an artwork exploring the western fascination with technology; a Christian rendition of the Vera Icon is flanked by a video work that flouts all notions of authenticity; the visualization of sub-atomic particles in a cloud chamber is juxtaposed with the emotions made visible by an art installation.
The Exhibition will be on until February 5th, 2012.

The Anxious Prop Case 4: Reviewing Making-Visible

The Product contributes a realtime visualization of the panel discussion at Stattbad Wedding. March 30, 2011, 19:30, STATTBAD Wedding, Gerichtstr. 65, 13347 Berlin Making-Visible is a prerequisite for collective knowledge - and each mode of production makes their own, certainly not only through visual channels. AXP C4 aims to question the differences and similarities between science and the plastic arts in terms of making-visible. In an epistemic examination of the scientific format of the conference, work and interventions are seen through open debates about science, art and architectural production featuring guests such as Hans-Jörg Rheinberger. As a collective/publication, The Anxious Prop will intervene and release its latest feuilleton, with the general intent to present the process of curating collectivity, to present a series of works that will constitute a operative environment, and to casually talk about the released material, with the contributors and the public. Case 4 co-directed by Jan Bovelet and Luis Berríos-Negrón with contributions by Caitlin Berrigan, Luis Berríos-Negrón, Jan Bovelet, Rick Buckley, Eric Ellingsen, Tim Gough, Mendel Heit, Alexandra Hopf, Boris Kajmak, Anna Kostreva, Miodrag Ku?, Fotini Lazaridou-Hatzigoga, Pia Marais, The MIT Museum, Olivia Plender, The Product, Hans-Jörg Rheinberger, Carrie Roseland, Salottobuono, Gabi Schillig, George Stiny.

Kinetic Sculpture, Done.

We have just finished a piece that is now on display in the Otto Bock Science Center Medizintechnik at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. It features an interesting interplay between virtual and physical, a dose of interaction and is quite huge. Stay tuned for a more indepth documentation. otto-bock-preview-2 otto-bock-preview-1 Also see the article on the ART+COM website.

Installation, Done.

We are finally done. It was quite a lot but totally worth it … we think. The mysterious collage below will have to do until we complete the proper documentation. This much can be said though: It involves a cnc-milled procedural surface, a very sensual projection onto it and a subtle interaction scheme. quelle-neu

Teaching at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design

After a very exiting 2 weeks of teaching a course on Computational Design at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design ( CIID ), we have returned to our studio in Berlin. It was an amazing time: wonderful city, inspiring students and a very promising school in general. If you havn't heard about the CIID yet, make sure to check out their activities. In the course we asked the students to work on three exercises focusing on different aspects of computational strategies. The final results were shown in an exhibition. Of course, photographs were taken: tobias, david and alie. ciid-computationaldesigncourse ciid-computationaldesigncourse ciid-computationaldesigncourse ( Photos were taken by Tobias Toft and David Mellis ) We were also asked to give a public lecture, which we accepted dubbing it it s more fun to compute. Very cunning!

Wohlerzogene Interaktive Medien

Patrick and Dennis gave a talk at the Innovationsforum Interaktionsdesign conference. ifid Wohlerzogene Interaktive Medien Interaktive Medien müssen sich verändern! Warum?
